This page explains your right to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information, and gives you the controls to exercise it.

Plain-English summary

finbarrow does not sell your personal information for money. However, under the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) — and comparable laws in Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and other US states — the use of cookies for cross-context behavioral advertising can legally count as "sharing" or "sale" of personal information. You have the right to opt out. This page tells you how.

What counts as "sharing" on finbarrow

finbarrow uses Google AdSense to display advertising on the site, contingent on your consent. When AdSense is enabled and you have consented to advertising cookies, certain information — your IP address (typically truncated), browser metadata, and cookies set by AdSense — may be transmitted to Google for the purpose of selecting and measuring advertising. Under CPRA, that transmission can be considered "sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising".

finbarrow does not:

  • Sell email addresses, names, or other directly identifying information to data brokers.
  • Operate a separate ad-network bidding platform.
  • Embed third-party trackers other than Google's analytics and advertising stack and any minimum needed for hosting/CDN security.
  • Run sponsored editorial content where the sponsor receives reader data.

How to opt out

Option 1 — Reject advertising in the cookie banner

The simplest way: on first visit, click "Reject" in the cookie banner. finbarrow's Consent Mode v2 implementation will set the advertising signal to "denied", AdSense will not be loaded with advertising cookies, and no behavioral advertising data will be transmitted. If you have already accepted advertising, click "Cookie preferences" in the footer to change your choice — the change is effective immediately.

Option 2 — Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal

If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal (Brave, Firefox with extension, DuckDuckGo, etc.), finbarrow treats that signal as a valid opt-out request under CPRA. We do not require you to additionally interact with our cookie banner. AdSense is loaded with advertising signals denied.

Option 3 — Email request

Send a request from any email address to [email protected] with subject line "[Privacy request] — Do Not Sell or Share". We will confirm receipt within 10 business days and complete the request within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm the request from the same email address but will not require additional verification beyond what the law requires.

California (CCPA / CPRA)

  • Right to know what categories of personal information are collected.
  • Right to access a copy of your personal information.
  • Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to delete personal information, subject to legal exceptions.
  • Right to opt out of sale or sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising — exercisable via this page.
  • Right to limit use of sensitive personal information (none collected by finbarrow at this time).
  • Right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.

Other US states with comparable laws (Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, etc.)

We honor opt-out requests submitted from residents of any US state with a comparable privacy law, even if you are not a California resident, using the same mechanisms above. The substantive rights and exact terminology vary slightly by state; the practical effect of opting out is the same: AdSense is loaded with advertising signals denied.

Authorized agents

California residents may use an authorized agent to submit an opt-out or other privacy request on their behalf. We may verify that the agent has been authorized by the consumer to act on their behalf. Send authorized-agent requests to [email protected] with subject line "[Authorized agent request]".

Confirmation and verification

For opt-out requests, finbarrow does not require additional identity verification — we apply the opt-out signal immediately on receipt. For access and deletion requests, we may ask for additional information to confirm your identity, in order to protect your data from improper disclosure. We will not require more verification than is reasonable under the applicable law.

Changes

If we change our practices in a way that affects your opt-out rights, we will update the "Last updated" date above and surface a notice on the site for a reasonable period. The underlying mechanism — reject advertising in the banner, GPC signal honored, or email request — will remain available regardless of which specific advertising vendor is in use at any given time.
